Fell off entering my stuff for over a week so I'll give a summary of this week and the race capping it off. Probably did 40-ish miles this week. Ran a meet on Thursday against Juanita and Sammamish. PRed in the 800 staying with the pack and outkicking the field by a second in the final straight for 2:02. Followed that up with a 54.4 4x400 leg. For me relative to my previous shorter speed (or lack thereof) that's really good. Eason mile was a success. Ran out with 3 leaders for 65 1st lap, 65 2nd lap. Well, turns out those guys are really fast and did a 61 3rd lap, leaving me completely on my own as I was the only one who went with them for the first 800. I did another 65 for my 3rd lap. My closing lap left further effort to be desired and I ran another 65 for a PR of 4:20, although with more effort I believe that could be a 4:18 or 4:19. I also believe I would do better to have people near me for the second half of the race. There were other guys with the capability of pushing me in the race, however much of the field didn't have great races. All in all though a very successful race for me and a very good field of milers. I did a 3200 but at that point I hadn't eaten in 8-ish hours and of course I had already run the mile. 9:36 for second. Pretty good time especially under the circumstances. Not a PR, but that will happen later.

Been hitting full mileage straight through this meet. Coach told me to dial it back to conserve for the Invite on Saturday in which I'm doing the 3200 as that event has been struggling for me, which is probably more due to circumstance rather than my actual abilities in the distance. He told me to win but take it as easy as possible doing so. Nice almost perfectly even split 67-68-68-68 mile where I coasted in at the end. It felt really smooth and comfortable and I was surprised to receive such a good time. Same deal in the 800, although at a faster pace, negative split a 64-62 for a very smooth 2:06. I was very happy to find, given that I trained through this meet, that a significantly lower effort yielded such great times! This is a positive result and means great things for the future of my season. Also positive that Watson, a very very hard worker, cruised his way to a solo 10:28 in the 3200, a mere 8 seconds off of his 10:20 PR from the Eason Invitational, even being on PR pace until the last 800. It is my firm conviction that he has the ability to run under 10:10 this Saturday. Completed my mileage using long warmups and cooldown runs.

4 miles easy with 3x150 buildups in preparation for Saturday. I'm typing this Saturday morning and woke up with a pretty bad allergic flare-up with lots of sinus pain and a significantly swollen throat. I'm working on it and hope to feel better but if my race doesn't go well it's not representative of my ability and I already know based on the past 2 weeks that I'm doing very well. Also, given the short-term nature of this ill-timed condition, this should not affect the currently promising future of my season.

Woke up in the morning with my throat swollen almost shut. Felt very bad. I attribute it to seasonal allergies. Very bad pain in the sinuses and throat. I took medicine for it and I felt light-headed. I got to the meet and it still felt bad. Furthermore, the Invite was even more delayed than I anticipated and I ended up eating too early as a result. At this point I was fairly confident I was about to lay the biggest brick in the history of bricks. The race began and I hung on to the lead pack. We were hitting fairly consistent 71.5s and came through the mile at 4:46. Still a strong group at that point. I believe our 5th lap was slower. 100m into our 6th lap, a guy from Jackson HS made a big move and took off. Nate Pendleton ran after him and although they slowed their sharp move distanced them from the pack and the gap was growing. I responded fairly quickly to this move and got to the front of the chase pack, and then began pulling away from them. I got into second a bit past the start of the 7th lap and spent the whole lap reeling the Jackson guy in. Passed him with 350 to go and he got me back with about 270 and got about a 3 second gap by the end of the race. I missed my PR by half a second but I felt so bad today before and after the race that I think this is a very encouraging result. Will, Matthew, Chris, and Tom PRed with 9:50, 9:57, 10:12, and 10:22, respectively.
